Hybrid Cars, Trucks, & SUVs

The Toyota Prius hybrid car is the undisputed king of hybrid cars for a number of reasons, but most important is the fact that it is elegantly and stylishly unique. Only other unique hybrids will ever challenge the Prius.

The Toyota Prius Hybrid

--> No new Prius in 2008

Updated: Tuesday, June 19, 2007

When Toyota started selling the Prius hybrid car, it was almost impossible to find one on a dealer lot. Buying one required deposits and waiting lists. Today, however, things have changed.

Recently, I went to a Toyota dealership in Southern California. There I found every Prius package available in numerous colors. I also found a lot of other Prius shoppers. In fact, the dealership I visited sells 10 Prius hybrid cars every day - making it the top selling vehicle at that dealership.

While Toyota's hybrid tax credits are almost set to expire, the Prius continues to set new sales records month after month. That fact is probably helped by the incentives that Toyota is offering on the Prius, such as great rates for financing, kind leases and an Economic Savings Bonus worth up to $2000.00.

The Prius, one of the most aerodynamic production cars ever,  runs on its high-voltage "Hybrid Synergy Drive," which combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine (producing 78 horsepower and 85 pound-feet of torque) with a new 67-hp electric motor powered by 500 volts versus the previous 273.

The Prius offers fairly quick acceleration for a fuel efficient vehicle, and can zip from zero to 60 miles per hour in 10.5 seconds.

A base Prius has a sticker price of around $23,000.

Sometime in 2009, the 3rd generation Prius will launch.
