40 miles of EV range backed up by a gasoline engine / generator. OK. Maybe not 40 miles of EV range, probably more like 25 - 50 miles of of battery range dependent upon driving style, weather, terrain and the age of the lithium-ion battery pack. Nevertheless, enough EV power for most average commutes, extended with 40 mpg gasoline generated energy.
Nonetheless, can the Chevrolet Volt change the way America drives?
We're beginning to find out as GM is now putting Volt rubber to the road, much to the joy of plug-in fans, global warming activists and foreign oil dependency fighters.
The Chevy Volt will begin at $41,000. A loaded Volt - with leather, backup camera and other ammenities - will cost $44,600. Regardless, the Volt also qualifies for a $7500 federal plug-in tax credit, plus a number of additional state and city incentives.
